Gant, Gates and Neujahr to run for City Council

Three people have signed up to run for the three soon-to-be vacant Estacada City Council seats.

The terms of Councilors Michele Conditt, Rob Gaskill and Emil Hnidey will end Dec. 31.

All three announced they will not run again in the November election.

Conditt, who has served on the council for 12 years, said she is ready for a change.

Gaskill, who serves on the boards of 300 Main, Mt. Hood Hospice and the Oregon Funeral Directors Board, said he will not run for re-election so he can concentrate on his other involvement.

Hnidey, who was appointed to the council in January, also will not run. He is moving outside the city limits in order to assist family members and no longer will be eligible to serve on the council.

The council positions are at large.

Aaron Gant, a regional manager for Day Wireless, will run for one of them.

Gant, a fourth-generation Estacada area resident, said he was prompted to run by a desire to serve his community and do his part.

Through his profession, Gant said he frequently deals with government agencies and that he will bring “a good working knowledge of how government operates” to the table.

Justin Gates, a business development manager for Mastertech Security, also will run for a council seat.

It is my turn to give back to the community, and what better way than being on the City Council.”

Dan Neujahr will also run.

Neujahr and his wife, Taryn Hamilton, have lived in Estacada for nine years and intend to raise their three children in town.

I want to support these efforts further as well as the efforts to rightly manage the needs of the city.”

The mayor seat also is up for election. Current Mayor Brent Dodrill has announced he will run for reelection.

Carey said no one has filed to run against Dodrill.
