A record swim lesson

On Friday, June 20, tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite for the fifth year in a row to set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest swimming lesson.

Shute Park Aquatics & Recreation Center in Hillboro will offer a free swimming lesson for children ages 6-12 on Friday at 8 a.m. Registration is required.by: HILLSBORO TRIBUNE PHOTO: CHASE ALLGOOD - Kids and instructors took part June 20 at Shute Aquatics and Recreation Center in a worldwide effort to set a new Guinness World Record for the worlds largest swim lesson. The event, intended to raise awareness that formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among children under age 14, drew children and their parents to SHARC. National organizers said more than 40,000 signed up for the lessons worldwide. The current Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson is 32,450 participants.
