Education Reporter

Lake Oswego Review

Are you as comfortable covering Title IX lawsuits as you are reporting about back-to-school barbeques? Does the chance to cover School Board campaigns and complex education issues make you just as giddy as interviewing 8-year-old academic all-stars?

The Lake Oswego Review – winner of this year's ONPA Sweepstakes Award as the best weekly newspaper in Oregon -- has an immediate opening for a full-time education writer who believes that telling all of those stories equally well is crucial in a community that truly revolves around its school district, and who understands and embraces the joy that is true community journalism.

Your stories will find a home on the front page and the Education section; in our award-winning Neighbors section and in our glossy LO Monthly magazine. Your work also will be shared regularly with our 24 sister newspapers in the Pamplin Media Group all across the Portland metro area.

There are the usual requirements, of course: a bachelor's degree in journalism or related field; some reporting experience for a daily or weekly paper; a working knowledge of AP style, grammar and spelling rules; an ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment and under deadline pressure.

But most importantly, we're looking for a writer who believes -- as we do -- that everyone has a story to tell if you're just willing to listen, and that the best way to find those stories is to engage as deeply as possible in the community you cover.

Intrigued? Send a resume and clips (or a link to material online) to Editor Gary Stein at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. No phone calls, please.
